One year on

It's been a year since I last set foot here. :) I'm sure many of my students/readers have forgotten this land.

While busy working the past one year, my thoughts always consist of my students. I will wonder how they are. :)

Well, if you were my student and are still reading this, please leave a comment so I know. I'm terribly sorry for leaving this site to dust for so long. :P

BACK!

Hello lovelies! I apologise for not posting for the past weeks; been extremely busy with work and school.

I'm having my break now, and I have received my results for my first three modules; I'm glad to say I've distinctions for all! :) It had not been easy, but I've put in a lot of hard work and effort, so it eventually paid off.

I've bumped into some of my students sometimes, and I do miss teaching. It's possible to fall in love with two professions, but sad to say, I have chosen something which I long had interest in and I really want to do it well.

Tuition classes are on a hold for now; I understand some students are truly interested but due to timetable clash, I prefer to keep things as it is now. Will let you know when the class re-opens!

Tuition classes

Hello my dearest! How are all of you? :)

I've started on my new job, and I'm still settling down. On the first day when school started, I saw children in their uniforms going to school, or going home from school. I miss teaching, and I miss my students. I so hope I get to see some of my students around. Well, I did. But that's only some.

Hope everyone's settling down and having fun with school!

Though I'll be studying and working at the same time, my friend and I decided to start a group tuition for primary school students.

Tentatively, it'll be starting in March 2008, and it'll be held at Block 825. I really love to be there to teach, but due to my work committments, I cannot promise to be there everytime. Still, I'm making plans to be there as often as I can, so I can be involved in the teaching as well.

When I'm not around, another qualified teacher will be there to assist the children.

This is a very open concept, and we are focusing on revision.

Pricing as follows:

8 sessions ( Every Tuesday, Thursday evenings)

Primary 1: $65 (English, Math)

Primary 2: $70 (English, Math)

Primary 3: $75 (English, Math, Science)

Primary 4: $80 (English, Math, Science)

Primary 5: $85 (English, Math, Science)

Primary 6: $90 (English, Math, Science)

I will like to offer this to my students first - if you really do need help, my friend and I will be able to help you. :)

Do let me know if any of you is interested. If there are enough pupils to start a class, then we'll start as soon.

For secondary 1 levels, I don't have classes planned yet, but if you do need help with your English, and don't mind Saturdays, let me know as well, and I will see what I can do for you. It'll be a group tuition, open concept as well, and pricing will be discussed later.

Happy 2008!

It's a brand new year, and I hope all my students will enjoy the new year ahead and achieve good and better results in studies!

School's going to start, and I believe most of my students are wondering which school I will be teaching in.

I once mentioned I may not be teaching anymore, and this seems to come true.

I've found a full-time temporary job as a Distribution & Marketing Co-ordinator, dealing with movies. It's a very challenging job to me, because I have to juggle this with my studies. I'll be very busy, but I believe it's a good chance for me to shine.

I feel sad to know I can't see any of my students anymore in the near future, but I know I will still see some around nearby. Just wave hi to me, or smile and I'll do the same back to you. Please don't be shy; I'll love to know how you are doing.

Continue to leave tags at my blog, though I seldom post an entry or a reply, I do read your comments, and it brightens my day to read your messages to me.

I'm happy to hear most of my P6s have been promoted to secondary school. Whether the school you're posted to is of your choice or not, I still hope you will strive to do your best (note: not "well").

Doing "well" will be putting pressure on all of you. I prefer all of you do your best, because that's when you know where's your limits, and you will give your all and best in whatever you do.

YOU are one of the stars in my sky, and the more you shine, the brighter my sky/life is.

Let me know how your first day of school goes; just know that Miss Tan misses everyone.

Late post

Sorry my dearests, been extremely busy so I didn't post any entry.

My grandfather just passed away, and I was at the funeral wake for 5 days. It was a very sad experience, and I wish I never had to go through it again.

I'm sorry; my P6s, do let me know which schools you have gotten into?

A very big HELLO!

Hi my dearest pupils, it's been so long since I posted an entry here. :)

How have all of you been? I've been seeing some pupils of mine around the area, and it's been nice. Hope all of you been enjoying your holidays so far!

My pupils' been asking me, if I'll be teaching them again, and if I can go to their schools next year.

I'm looking for my DREAM job now, and if I do find one, I won't be teaching again.

I enjoy teaching, and I enjoy the interaction with my pupils. It's a rewarding profession, and I believe if I choose teaching, it'll give me a lot of joy. However, if I do choose teaching, I'll be putting my diploma and degree to waste, and I won't be able to pursue what I truly, truly want to do.

That's why I say, in life, you must know what you want to do - you must have a direction in life. Some of you are still young, and may not know where you are heading to. When you get older, you will realise what you want to do in life, and you will work hard towards fulfilling it.

I'm giving myself a couple of years to work in the media industry. If in the next few years, I still can't carve a career for myself, I will go back to teaching, but I won't be a full -time teacher - instead, I'll be a full-time tutor, giving tuition and my attention to my pupils.

By then, most of you will have grown up. :)

I'm busy with school right now. I hope all of you are having fun, whether in Singapore, or overseas. Festive seasons are coming, and please, while enjoying yourselves, do remember to take care, and remember, Miss Tan misses all of you.

My farewell gifts for them...

The farewell party!

It was the last day of school, and I saw laughter and tears.

I don't remember me crying on my last day of school, but I can understand the attachment and feelings that come with the partings.

Each parting comes with a meeting; don't cry for today's parting, be glad for tomorrow's meeting!

I hope 6 Determined pupils appreciate what I've done for them - I forked out the remaining money for their party, and I'm officially super broke. Supposed to go out tonight, but too broke to go anywhere. :D

Despite me being broke, I still believe in giving the best to my students. Their last day is such an important day; must make it special for them. Hope they enjoyed it though!

I'm going Kuala Lumpur this weekend, for a good relaxing time. It's a shopping trip, but I've shopped enough in Hong Kong and Bangkok in June, so enough is enough. I just want to have a good trip walking around and enjoying KL this time round.

Time for a rest

TO MY QIHUA STUDENTS

I don't think I'm going down tomorrow, I'm sorry. I'll make time to go down next week, after my exams. I'm kind of falling sick, so I guess I need to stay home to rest, and I also don't want to spread my nasty germs to you. :)

Happy Deepavali to Indian students, and happy holiday to the rest!

I'm in the midst of preparing for my exam, trying to study hard. Because I am a student, I understand what students are going through. That's why, I feel I can relate to my students' feelings.

Though studying at my age and at their age are two different things, I understand the whole stress and fear facing exam, and the pre-exam jitters.

But not to worry, there's always a phase/stage for everything. I've come so far to this stage in my life, and that's because I've been through all, which what all of you had been through and are going through.

Don't worry about the road ahead, it may be rocky and tough, but you are never alone. :) All the best!!!

Teaching 6 Determined

It's been two days taking care of 6 Determined, not even teaching. Their exams are over, so now it's the slack period. Wish I could give them more fun, instead of doing nothing much in class. I've done what I can, by printing crossword puzzles for them today, but still, some of them seemed bored.

Some of them have my blog address already, and I was quite shocked to know that 6 Creative has given to them.

May I just say, I don't mind 6 Determined knowing my blog address, because eventually they'll know since I am teaching them, but I certainly DO NOT appreciate people giving my address everywhere.

It just doesn't make sense, why would people read blogs of strangers? And my blog is for MY students, people whom I know, and I've taught.

I don't blame, neither am I angry. But maybe, a lesson to learn to respect others, especially your teachers. :)

6 Determined's been good so far, I'm lenient with them, just like how I am to my other students. But I just want them to know - I am a friendly monster, meaning, I can be friendly as I want to be, and a monster, if I have to be.

And HELLO My Qihua students! I went back that day and met some of you. It was certainly nice and sweet to see some familiar faces. And I'm glad you all still remember me, though it wasn't too long ago.

I'll be back on Friday afternoon, MOST LIKELY. So if I do see you around, good for you. :)

Since forever!

Hello my 1 Challenge kids from Admiralty Primary! :)

Finally completed my project, after so many sleepless nights and countless of work to do. Now, preparing for my exam.

And guess what, I'm teaching at Woodlands Primary for the next two weeks!!!! :) Which class? Make a guess! Hahahaha... I've not sure which class yet, but I know which level for sure, and it's MORNING session. *winks winks*

AND HOOORAY TO ALL OF YOU, exams are over and you finally can relax and have fun! Do remember to take care of yourselves, and await for your results! As long as you've done your best, that's good enough. :) I wish all of you BEST OF LUCK!

One more thing - I'm in the midst of looking for a full-time job - NOPE, not teaching. I'm pursuing my PASSION. I have no idea what's my passion now too, so I'm like, searching for it. So if I do get a job, then I'll give up relief teaching totally - and this means, I won't see my kids again.

It's a very very sad thing, but it's a painful choice I have to make.

Hello everyone, it's been so long since I'm here. I've been extremely busy with school work and giving tuition. But I haven't forgotten anyone of you! :)

PSLE is finally over, and exams for some of my students are coming too.

Yes, it's my 22nd birthday today, in case most of you are wondering how OLD is Miss Tan. :) Yes, I'm old. Hahaha!

I have a very busy day ahead, but I tell myelf I MUST WRITE SOMETHING HERE TODAY.

To all my P6 ladies and gentlemen,

ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR PSLE!!!! Do it once, and do it well. Remember, always do your best and as long as you have tried hard, nothing else maters. :) Just keep going and after one week, you'll be free!!!

My last week with Qihua Primary; some of my classes are really nice and I can't bear to leave them, but well, partings are part and parcel of life. I just wish them all the best!

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello everyone! It's been quite some time since I'm here.

Just something to tell everyone, especially my pupils in Qihua Primary - next week will be my last week in Qihua!

Of course, I may still be teaching in Qihua, and in any other schools too! Just that, I won't be doing long term relief due to my personal committments.

I really apologise for any inconvenience caused, for all these weren't within my planning.

Still, I hope all these will work out fine, and I'll still see my kids as often.

I've been busy with my friend's wedding, relief teaching in Qihua Primary and my family stuff.

I am starting my night classes next week, so I will be even more busy. I am trying very hard to plan my time well, but I am having some problems.

Some of my tuition students are having problems too. They are feeling the stress from exams and I very much want to help them. I'm doing research on children psychology, so to help them overcome it.

So far, it has been good at Qihua Primary, some of my students are quite nice and sweet, accompanying me during recess. I have so many students I don't quite remember everyone's names and faces. However, just smile or say hi to me if you see me, and I will definitely do the same back. :)

Thanks for leaving your comments and saying hi. You've no idea how much I miss some of you, hope to see you all soon.

Hello my new "visitors"!

Now my journal has more readers.

I've given my Social Studies students this weblog address, so I can communicate with them during the days when I'm not in school. So I can remind them on what to bring and to do whatever homework there is!

Started teaching at Qihua Primary, been quite busy settling down and knowing new kids. I have problems remembering all the faces, given now that I have so many classes since I'm a subject teacher. :)

Still, I'm trying hard to know my kids better!

I miss my other kids, and hope to see them soon. Well, MAYBE in the near future? We'll never know. :)

End of the week

Time flies, September holidays coming to an end!

I've been really busy these days, and I got myself really tired.

P6 Creative, I was waiting at Civic Plaza Mac from 1pm to 130pm but I did not see any of you. Maybe some of you were sitting inside, but I went to take a look before I left, yet I still saw no one.

I understand it may not be your fault, as you may have valid reasons. Well, if you do need my help, let me know. I'll try to arrange for something, but no promises. I will be really busy the next coming weeks.

How's everyone doing? Hope you completed your holiday homework, and are prepared for school to re-open.

Watched some movies during the week?

I watched Ratatouille with my friend and two tuition kids, Gene & Xan. It was quite alright, but if you like animated movies, give it a watch. :) It's quite a good laugh.

I need to take care of myself more, because I'm getting sick again. So everyone, please take care too, drink lots of water and wash your hands regularly.

Hello 2 Diligent of Woodlands Primary!

I gave this blog link to my 2 Diligent kids today. Time flies, tomorrow my last day with them.

Today, they made me really angry. I was really upset, because I was already sick and yet they still refused to listen to me.

However, they are a bunch of fun kids, and I like them quite a bit. :)

Jozoe, my Primary 5 "friend" came to school early, and joined me during my break. She's one of the Primary 5s who will be going Taiwan for an exchange programme for 9 days. How fun!
I know Gene went to China (Suzhou, Beijing, Shanghai) earlier in June with his school. It was really good to see him learning to be independent, though he fell sick over there.

I didn't go anywhere far when I was in primary school, but I went for an educational trip to New Zealand when I was in secondary school. Two weeks away from home, I missed my parents very much, but I enjoyed myself a lot. I was learning new things, meeting new people and shopping! :)

Boys & girls, if you have the chance to go on an educational trip with school, grab it! It's a once in a lifetime experience, and you will never forget it. :)

I'm still sick, though recovering slowly.

Sorry 2 Justice of Admiralty Primary, I can't meet you all during recess this week. I need to rest as much as possible, and I have other stuff to manage. But Miss Tan still misses all of you. Remember to take care!

Miss Tan is sick

Hello all! Miss Tan is SICK, very sick. I had gone to see the doctor and given antibiotics because my throat is too red and sore. :(

So kids, please drink lots of water and wash your hands regularly.

I will be teaching Primary 2s at Woodlands Primary, from 27 to 29 August, morning session.

I was relieving Primary 1 and Primary 5 on Friday, and that's why I got even more sick. I met my previous P5 "friends", Jozoe, Wensin and Jingyi. Nice of them to come and say hi, and I had company during my break too! :)

I have some impending relief teaching stints, and I may not be at Admiralty Primary afterall. Maybe at Qihua Primary. :) Will see how it goes, and update here soonest.

Missing 2 Justice

I am sick, yet was called up to relief teach at Qihua Primary this morning. I was from Qihua Primary, and my beloved Mr Roslan was surprisingly stunned to see me. :)

I miss my 2 Justice kids! I was asked to take a P2 class from tomorrow onwards, but due to other stuff, I cannot take the class. If not, I would be able to see 2 Justice kids.
Well, I am going to relief teach 3 Resilience from 10 September onwards, all the way till end of the year. So I'll still be around the school! :)

And yes, I'll be meeting 2 Justice kids tomorrow afternoon, at 3pm, during their recess.

Thank you very much for the "happy ending", though I was sick. Thank you for the "HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY MISS TAN", and all the little notes, cards, and presents. :) Love them all. Thank you for the fun and laughter!

My little plant

Hi 2 Justice kids! How's your little plants? :)

All my little seeds have sprouted, and one of it has grown more than 3cm tall! Hope all of you remember to jot down on your "My Plant is Growing" record sheet, on the progress of your plant. I am looking forward to see you and your little plants on Monday!

I'm still in the midst of marking all of the worksheets. We will do filing on Monday, okay? Don't forget to bring me your homework and all our unmarked worksheets too, so I can finish marking them by Monday, I hope. :)

Awesome 2 Justice

It's the start of a long weekend again, due to PSLE Oral Examination.

Over the past three days, 2 Justice had been pretty awesome, although they made me angry sometimes. We played badminton for PE and it was great! I joined in too, but of course, I'm no match to the kids. They are so young and energetic while I'm an old auntie. :p

On Tuesday, I played Hangman with them, and it was so exciting! In the end,t he split class pupils won. Still, I think everyone did well.

Yesterday, the kids were so hardworking. :) Most of them completed the worksheets I've given out to them to do in class. Great job! This way, they don't have too many homework to do at home.

And for me, I have tons of "homework" to do as I've got 13 sets of 30 worksheets to mark!

I'm in the midst of marking their creative writing worksheets, and it's quite a headache. :p I need more time on that, really, but I must say, I'm impressed with 2 Justice's determination to complete their work. It's the effort I want to see, and I've seen it in most of them.

YEsterday was supposed to be my last day with them. However, Mdm Fadilah will only be back on Tuesday, so I'll be seeing the kids for last on Monday. It's hard to imagine how my last day with them will be, knowing that I probably won't see them around anymore.

Well, the kids miss Mdm Fadilah so much! Don't worry kids, she'll be back really soon.

In the meantime, be good at home, do your homework and PLAY HARD too! :) Take care, I'll see you on Monday.

My first lesson with my new Primary 1 student, Marc, went well. He's really a mature kid and very sensible. A very smart boy. I just taught 2 Justice "Time" and Marc already knows it! I'm amazed.

I went over to next door, and had tuition with my Primary 5 and Primary 4 boys, Gene & Xan, respectively. They are brothers, and I've taught them since 5 years ago. Gene managed to complete 13 problem sums today. That was great! :)

I brought them (Marc, Gene & Xan) out for McDonald's lunch. We were supposed to watch a movie together, but there isn't any movies suitable for kids now. We have to wait till end August!

We had a lot of fun, Marc was laughing very hard with all the jokes. I'm not sure if you have heard the Spiderpig song on The Simpsons Movie, but I happen to have the ringtone, and it amused the boys so much.

And yes! Since you are at youtube, you may want to search for "Live Singapura" for a funny music video. My 2 Justice pupil, Chin Rong, asked me to view the clip during computer class, and it was really funny.

The short school week is over, and there are four days to go before I see my boys & girls again.

Next week, will be my last week with 2 Justice. Their form teacher, Mdm Fadilah, will be back from her course and I'm sure the kids are looking forward to her return.

For me, this one month had been a really good month, for I did not expect to enjoy myself this much. I'm just a relief teacher, yet I feel I'm more than one. I guess, the kids play a big part in making me feel this way. Thanks 2 Justice!

2 Justice did a great job at their relays today. I know some of them are sad that they did not win any medals, while some won two medals (good job!). If you did not win any medal, please do not be too sad about it. Ask yourself if you have enjoyed yourself and if you had tried your best. Don't blame your team members for not being able to win. Try harder next year, and you will get a medal! :) Don't lose hope!

For those who won medals, please take good care of them! Aquila told me he wanted to win medals, and he was very sad when his team did not win at the trial relay during PE. Yet, he has TWO medals now! However, selfish Aquila did not want to give me one as a present.... :(

Haha, I'm just joking.

I'm tired, and I should sleep now. Good night my 2 Justice kids!

National Day celebration

It had been a really fun morning! Despite the sun and sweat, 2 Justice and I enjoyed ourselves very much. Well, I sure hope they did! I had a lot of fun, as it had been so long since I celebrated National Day. :)

Very tired, my body is breaking apart.

I'll miss 2 Justice, for the rest of this week. Enjoy your long weekend and don't forget to do your homework!!!
